Maes yr Haul Primary School, based in Bridgend, has become the 28th school in the county borough to achieve the prestigious Eco-School green flag award.
Keep Wales Tidy Assessors noted the good work going on at the school, commenting that the different schemes and programmes are well linked, delivering environmental improvements as well as increased education for sustainable development and global citizenship (ESDGC). The school's creative projects were also praised, such as the junk mail trail developed to highlight environmental issues. The assessors noted that the tour delivered by the eco-committee gave a wonderful sense of whole school involvement in ESDGC and eco-school projects.
Maes Yr Haul are not the only school celebrating their green successes in the county borough though. Every year Keep Wales Tidy organises the Eco-School of the Year Award to reward the best of the green flag schools throughout Wales. Bridgend County Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People
Alana Davies said: "I would like to congratulate Maes Yr Haul on obtaining a prestigious Eco-School green flag award, they should feel very proud of themselves.
"It is also great news that we have so many schools nominated in the Eco-School of the Year Award. Bridgend has always done well in these awards and it looks like this year is no exception. I know that the schools, including teachers, pupils, parents and governors work hard to achieve these eco-successes. I am keeping my fingers crossed as it would be great to have some category winners in Bridgend. Well done everyone."Four county borough schools are finalists in the Eco-School of the Year Awards, they are: Sarn Nursery (in the Top Nursery category), Heol y Cyw (in the Top Primary category), Ogmore Comprehensive (in the Top Comprehensive category) and Cefn Glas Infants (in the Waste Minimisation category).
