The council is looking for social workers who will thrive on quickly responding to local children and families, often with complex needs or where there are early child protection concerns.

They will also work closely with existing team members in their support and intervention for those with longer term needs.

Councillor Davies added: “We’ve listened to our service users and our staff to learn what makes our services better for all. We are confident that recent changes we have made will enable us to continue to improve our performance and outcomes for children.”

Rhian John, aged 27, from Bridgend, is a social worker with Bridgend County Borough Council. She works in the Assessment Team in the Children’s Directorate.

Rhian said: “I developed an interest in social work while I was working as a youth worker and play-scheme worker for the council a number of years ago. I wanted to help safeguard and promote the welfare of children, and families within my local area, and to enable them to have the best life chances possible.

“I have been working in the Assessment Team for almost four years and I have recently completed my Bsc Social Work, with support from the council. I thoroughly enjoy my role within the Assessment Team, and find the work both challenging and rewarding.”
